Shooting yourself with a GoPro gets old after awhile so I began turning the camera around so it shoots where I'm going. As a result, I'm getting some great perspectives and find it easier to shoot friends surfing waves or to document my students paddling in class.
One issue I came across is that if the camera is raised too high, it meters for the sky and over exposes the entire take. Without a person a few feet away, it doesn't have a location to focus/meter from. So I turn it so it not only faces directly forward but also slightly down.
Here's a sample from a day of surfing in September.
